Flora McPherson
Flora McPherson, 85, of Independence, Mo., formerly of Akron and Richfield, passed away Monday, Nov. 24 at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Mo.

Miss McPherson was born to Archie Neal and Buress Wilson McPherson in Georgiana, Alabama. Flora attended Graceland College in Iowa and served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II from 1943-1945. After the war, she received her degree in Music Education from the University of Akron and masters from Kent State University. She taught music in the Akron public schools for 30 years while also serving as her church's organist and music director. She also sang with the Robert Shaw Chorale and the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus for several years. In retirement, she served as lead tour guide of Kirtland Temple in Kirtland Ohio, and had various volunteer positions in Alabama and Missouri sharing her gift of music. Flora's life was defined by her love of the Lord and all his children, the love of music and all God's creatures.

Preceded in death by her beloved nephew, Karl Horst, she is survived by her sister, Lenora June Horst; niece, Paula Turner Randy; nephew, Kurt Horst, all of Florida; along with many loving cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. at Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Dennis Cunningham will be officiating.
