Frances S. Rohrich died as she lived: Her Way. When she found her quality of life too tough to bear, she determined it was time to go, and so she did on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.
At the age of 91, she may be the only woman to leave this earth without a wrinkle. She was a striking woman, and her external elegance was surpassed only by the beauty inside her which emanated from every pore. She was loving. She was humble. She was caring. She was generous. She was extremely kind.
Projected to live no more than nine months following her cancer diagnosis in August of 2012, she announced that the idea was "ridiculous" that her family "didn't do" cancer. It must have been her enormous inner strength that afforded her nearly two additional quality years beyond that projection, again, doing things her way.
No one ever thought of Fran as an old woman because she always "thought young" and was genuinely young at heart. This helps to explain why she was voted "wittiest" in her graduating class at Buchtel High School. Fran's glass was always half-full. She used to say, "I get up every morning and I have a choice. I can be happy or I can be miserable. I choose happy!
Frances met the love of her life, Eugene, at Portage Path Grade School. He was a crossing guard and she was the hall monitor. When she reported him to the principal for "taking two steps at a time" (poor behavior in those days), he fell for her and many years later, they were married. They shared 51 wonderful years of marriage. She and Eugene had three children: Steven, Janis, and Jenifer. Fran has now gone to follow Eugene and Steven. That was her plan.
She leaves many beautiful memories behind for her daughters, Janis K. (Gordon) Seward and Jenifer R. (Gary) Schmidt; a sister Marjorie (Don) Belden; grandchildren: Kimberly K. (Scott) Read, Steven W. (Cindy) Rodeman, Michael R. (Kristen) Schmidt, and Terry R. Schmidt; great grandchildren: Garrett Read, Brandon Read, and Jackson Rodeman; special friends: Barb and Bill Helming, Sally Bowman, Ellen and Bob Rochford, and many Concordia friends and staff.
Services will be held at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., on Sunday, March 8, 2015, at 3:00PM, friends and family will be received one hour prior to the service. Private interment will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park.
