Frances Fisher Tait died January 18, 2024. Frances was the daughter of Homer A. and Margaret Wallover Fisher. Born in Akron on March 24, 1930, she was preceded in death by her father and mother, her son, Arthur L. Tait, Jr., her sister, Margaret Fisher Seeley and brother-in-law, Dr. George A. Seeley. She is survived by daughters, Dorothy F. Fitzgerald (Dan, deceased), of Akron, and Anne Tait, of Providence, Rhode Island; granddaughters, Emily Osley (Peter) and Roma Taitwood, and great grandson, Simon Osley.
Frances attended Sharon Center Elementary School, Our Lady of the Elms, and graduated from Penn Hall Preparatory School, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Afterwards, she attended Miami University, Oxford, Ohio then transferred to Wilson College for Women, also of Chambersburg, also her mother’s alma mater, where she received a BA in Liberal Arts, concentrating in English literature and history.
She worked in fields devoted to social welfare: the USVA Hospital, Coatesville, PA and later for the Summit County Welfare Department from which she retired after 26 years of service. She was a member of Our Lady of the Elms Alumnae Association, Portage Summit Chapter of the DAR, the George Washington Chapter of the DAC, and the Women’s College Club. She also served as a volunteer with the Summit County Board of Elections, and the Author! Author! program at the Elms.
A Memorial Service will take place in the Chapel of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1361 W. Market St.Akron, OH 44313, SATURDAY, June 29 at 11:00 am.
