Frank Joseph "Bud" Holub, Jr.

July 6, 1923 — February 11, 2022

Frank Joseph “Bud” Holub, Jr., 98, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of February 11, 2022, surrounded by his immediate family.

Bud was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA to Frank and Minnie (Young) Holub. He was the most well-adjusted middle child in history, flanked by his sisters, who he loved and adored. He attended Westminster College, and like so many other men his age, he enlisted in the military after Pearl Harbor, leaving college to do so. Bud wanted to be a pilot. He was trained in Navy Aviation where he learned to fly a variety of different aircraft and to navigate by the stars, earning his wings in Pensacola. He was assigned to a Martin PBM Mariner as part of the VH4 Rescue Squadron, which mostly conducted search and rescue missions. After the war ended, he re-enlisted, much to the chagrin of Billie Jeanne Seal who was waiting at Westminster to get married. In peacetime, Bud was assigned to an Air Sea Rescue Squadron in the Pacific where he served at Tokyo Bay and Nagasaki. Then, he was part of Operation Crossroads. His job was to fly equipment and scientists into Bikini Atoll and fly inhabitants of the island to a new location. Upon completion of these missions, Frank left the Navy, returned to Westminster, and married Billie Jeanne (not anyone’s lover but Bud’s) Seal. After graduation, he got a job at Goodyear in Akron, Ohio, and relocated with Billie Jeanne to start his career and a family. Bud worked at Goodyear until his retirement in 1985. After retirement, he and Billie Jeanne traveled until she died in 1992. He had a second chance at love with longtime friend Evelyn Yovich. As life partners, they took countless cruises and tours of places he’d never seen, and he inherited Evelyn’s son and daughter and their families as well.

Frank could be seen cheering for Michigan in a sea of OSU fans, thanks to his son Skip, for whom Frank paid out-of-state tuition for two years at the University of Michigan. While OSU won the majority of the time, he got to see Michigan win (big) in his final season. There’s no doubt he will claim to have the best seats in The Big House for every UM home game from here on out.

Bud is preceded in death by basically everyone, including his parents, Minnie and Frank, Billie Jeanne, his sisters, Lois and Carolyn (Nickie), and two nieces, Debie Longmore and Margie Akin. Frank is survived by his children, Toni Ehrman and Frank J. “Skip” Holub, III (Debbie), granddaughters Lindsay (Wayne) Wissman and Erica Bohon, great-granddaughter, Eleanor Wissman, special friend, Evelyn Yovich, her two children and their families.

The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the nurses, staff, hospice nurses, and hospice aides at Ohio Living Rockynol for their compassionate, attentive care and endless support. He truly benefited from the relationships the staff developed with him. Thank you to everyone who loved him and cared about him.
