Franklin Wesley Kokomoor M.D. died on February 17, 2024 of Esophageal Cancer. He was born on July 29, 1951 in Gainesville, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel and Marvin Kokomoor M.D., his brother and sister Henry and Mary and his son Zachary Henry Kokomoor. Frank attended the University of Florida for his undergraduate studies and then medical school. While doing his pediatric residency with Akron Children’s Hospital, he met his future wife Pamela Jane Gould. They were married for 44 years and had their son Zachary and daughter Sarah Jane. Frank became a Neonatologist after completing his Pediatric training and worked at Akron Children’s Hospital Neonatal Unit, Summa City Hospital and Akron General Hospital until he retired. While Frank was a man of few words, what he did say made an impact. His manner was unassuming and humble, but he could also be very witty.
His loves were many; “Four Palms House” in Crescent Beach, Florida, “Station Bay House” in Duck, Outer Banks, North Carolina, windsurfing in his younger years, sailing, Bermuda and the ten times he and Pam went there, shrimp, smoked cheese, candy, getting the Golden Apple Award for teaching from the Pediatric staff, becoming a captain, his work partners, Hazel his French Bulldog, all his lifelong pets, the Ocean, cruises, Pam and Sarah, comfortable clothes, his slides (flip-flops), playing “Zelda”, a good meal, old friends, Jimmy Buffet and really any song about the ocean.
Frank was not only good at figuring out how to fix everything, but he used those amazing hands to heal countless tiny, sick babies while simultaneously comforting their parents. Pam would be told a multitude of stories by Physicians and Nurses about how they admired his intelligence within his occupation. Frank didn’t ever speak of these stories himself. Frank never realized his true worth to so many.
His remaining family members cannot even imagine a life without him in it. Frank is survived by his wife Pam, his daughter Sarah Kokomoor Halkides and her husband Garret Halkides. He is also survived by his sister Karen and her husband George Folsom, sister-in-law Cindy Beynon (Bill Beynon) and brother-in-law Chuck Gould (Lisa Gould). He is also survived by uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and special family friend Joanna Johnson.
