Fred D Barton

Fred D. Barton died March 6, 2011 at home with his wife, Betty, at his side.

He was born in Akron and was a resident of Tallmadge for the last 25 years.

Dr. Barton served in the U.S. Navy and was a graduate of The University of Akron with double majors in Chemistry and Philosophy. He graduated from Western Reserve School of Medicine and served an internship at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He then served his first residency at Rollman Psychiatric Institute in Cincinnati followed by a second residency at Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino, Calif. He worked as head of the mental health clinic in Indio, Calif. while also working at Indian River Boys School and opened a private practice in Riverside, Calif. Upon returning to Akron he was superintendant of Fallsview Psychiatric Hospital followed by a 30 year career in private practice at Summit Psychiatric Associates. Fred served his profession as Past Chief of Psychiatry at Akron City Hospital, past president of Summit County Medical Society and past president of NEOPA- Northeast Ohio Psychiatric Association.

Dr. Barton was preceded in death by parents, James H. and Grace Barton; daughter, Patty; and brother, James. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Betty; son, Louis A. Anne Barton, M.D.; daughter; Nicole; son, Gregory; grandson, Patrick; sister, Marion Montabone; brother, Joe Nancy; sisters, Anne Max Esler and Margaret Paul Kulick; mother-in-law, Jeanette McQuillen; sister-in-law, Patty Chip Billow; and many special nieces and nephews.

His wife would like to extend her heartfelt thanks to a loving and supporting family; his caregivers, Marsha Davidson, Crystal, Katie and Vera; Hospice of Summa; and Drs. Bachtel, Reed, and Saltis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Victory Church, 73 North Avenue, Tallmadge, OH 44278, with Fr. John R. Hengle officiating, followed by private family services. Friends may call Wednesday, from 1 to 6 p.m., where a wake service will be said at 1:30 p.m., at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd. Street corner of Falls Ave.. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Humane Society of Greater Akron, 7996 Darrow Rd., Twinsburg, OH 44087 or Our Lady of Victory Church. Billow FALLS Chapel
