Fred E. Fricker, age 77, passed away after a short illness in Akron, Ohio on Sunday, April 23, 2017 with his family by his side. Fred lived a life full of family, friends and numerous passions and hobbies and will be deeply missed.
Fred was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. He was a graduate of Buchtel High School and Miami University, Oxford, OH. He was an architect by trade, but a nature lover by passion. He possessed a deep, inquisitive mind, and spent his lifetime in a state of continual learning, diving deep into books to quiet his curiosity. His hobbies had him charging through underbrush and swamps, counting birds, butterflies, snakes, and other wildlife as a Summit County Metroparks and Greater Akron Audubon Society volunteer. Fred also spent many years volunteering as a WABL Softball coach, serving on the Akron Board of Zoning Appeals and planning class reunions with his Buchtel High classmates.
Fred is survived by his son, Stephen Fricker; his daughter, Susan (Thomas) Houlihan; his grandsons, Patrick Houlihan and James ("Freddy") Houlihan; his granddaughter, Samantha Houlihan; his sister-in-law, Nancy Young; his nephews, Sean Coakley and Chris Young; and his nieces, Colleen Coakley and Carrie Young. He was also survived by his beloved dog, Amber.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Patricia Anne Fricker (nee Wade); his father, Frank Fricker; his mother, June Fricker; and his sister, Judy Fricker Coakley.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron, OH 44333. There will be no graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Fred's name to one of the following: Humane Society of Summit County
