Frederic Walter Mellor, Jr., 94, died on February 23, 2016.
Born in New Haven, Connecticut on March 22, 1921 to Catherine and Frederic Mellor of Greenwich, Connecticut, he attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.
He was a naval aviator during WWII and served in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he was a pilot and captain with Pan American Airways and then Scandinavian Airlines System in Stockholm, Sweden. He married Hjordis (Kyllan) Jansson there in 1947. He joined Goodyear Aerospace Corporation in 1953 was director of field operations at retirement with 34 years service.
He was a strong supporter for over 50 years of the Boy Scouts of America, past president of the local Great Trail Council and member of the executive board, and a past president of the Area V of the central region and member of the regional advisory board in Chicago. He was honored with the Silver Beaver award in 1972 and the National Silver Antelope award in 1987. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, a past chairman of diocesan and every member canvass drives, a member of masonic adoniram joppa lodge #517, a member of Turkeyfoot Island Club and of Portage Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Kyllan; son, Fred III (Annica) and their daughter Lisa of Uppsala, Sweden; son, Donald of Akron, Ohio; and daughter, Pamela of Westlake, Ohio.
There will be no calling hours. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1361 W. Market Street will take place on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. The Reverend Mark Pruitt, officiating.
