Frederick Mundy, a second-generation rubber manufacturing worker and long-time resident of Cuyahoga Falls, died on December 4, 2017 at the age of 84.
Fred is survived by his wife, Delores Mundy (nee Bowersock); his sister, Carolyn; his children, David, Doug and Eric; his grandchildren, Daniel, Matthew and Andrew; and five great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Edward.
Fred was born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 5, 1933 to Harry Mundy and Ida Kahler. He grew up in the Stow-Cuyahoga Falls area; his parents coming to the area to work in the factories of Akron while farming a small plot of land in suburbia. As an adolescent he played marbles competitively, winning local and regional tournaments, and placing third nationally. From a blue-collar family, Fred followed in his parents' footsteps, Harry (Goodyear Rubber) and Ida (Goodyear Aircraft during the WWII), working at rubber factories in Cuyahoga Falls and Akron from the late 1950s to 1980s.
Fred loved his country, his family, and his dog, Cody. He enjoyed vacationing in Canada and more recently North Carolina. He liked to watch football, golf, and boxing. In his slightly younger years he enjoyed camping, boating, hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed tinkering and solving his own mechanical problems. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family, and especially his furry friend.
Services will be held 11 a.m. SATURDAY at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd Street. Interment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home FRIDAY from 6 to 8 p.m. (Billow FALLS Chapel)
