G. Duane Culler, 97, passed away on March 25, 2017.
Duane was born on April 27, 1919 in Lucas Ohio, to parents Emery and Helen Culler. Duane graduated from Lucas High School in 1937, and served as a Captain in the U.S. Army during World War II. Duane attended Wittenberg College graduating in 1949 with a degree in business.
In 1959 Duane returned to school attending Hamma Divinity School at Wittenberg. He was ordained as a Lutheran pastor in 1963. He served congregations at Mt. Zion, Lafayette, Christ the King, Centerville, and St. Paul, Akron; all in Ohio.
In his retirement, Duane worked at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, and served as visitation pastor at Jerusalem Lutheran, Seville. He was also a very active member of the Akron Garden Club. Duane had a passion for splitting wood and always kept the home fire burning. Duane and his wife, Barbara, traveled globally during their retirement. All who knew them were blessed by the example of their witness to Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, who he married on September 11, 1949. They were blessed with 64 years of marriage, five children, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Paul, of Tequesta, FL.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Seville, OH at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28. A dinner will be served following the service. Duane will be laid to rest in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Lucas, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made in Duane's memory to Lutheran World Relief, P.O. Box 17061, Baltimore, MD 21297. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
