Garth D. Mchenry

Garth D. McHenry, 92, of Akron, Ohio, went home to be with his Savior on March 5th, 2021.  Garth was born in Clark, South Dakota to Charles and Vera McHenry on October 12th, 1928.  Garth lived for a short time in California, during the Depression before moving to Iowa where he grew up mostly in Cedar Falls. There he attended The State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa), receiving his undergraduate degree in Business Administration.  After graduation he served as an officer in the Air Force during the Korean War.  He then continued his education and received a Master’s Degree in Marketing and Business from the University of Iowa.

Garth’s entire career was with Owen’s Corning Fiberglas.  He started in purchasing and retired as an International Sales Manager for the Tire Cord Division at Owen’s Corning.

Garth loved spending time with family and friends.  Golfing, woodworking, traveling, gardening, and bowling were among the many hobbies he enjoyed.  He was a huge fan of the University of Iowa and Ohio State University teams and enjoyed watching any Cleveland sports team. Garth also enjoyed serving and volunteering at his church, Faith Lutheran.

Garth is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Marian McHenry, his children Scott (Mary) McHenry, Linda (Brad) Ulery, Beth Thomas, Cynthia (Michael) Callen; grandchildren Kori Ulery, Justin Callen, Andy (Tanja) Thomas, Philip (Lindsay) McHenry, Isaac Ulery, Dr. Steven McHenry, Ellen Ulery, Ben Thomas, and Ashley Callen, along with five great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his sister, Charlene Storm.

We would like to thank "our angels" from Elara Caring Hospice and the staff at St. Edwards for all the love, care, and compassion they gave our family during this difficult time.

Memorial service will take place on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 12:00 Noon at Faith Lutheran Church, 2726 West Market Street., Akron, OH 44333. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lutheran World Relief or the Salvation Army.
