Geeta Sarkar died peacefully at her home on November 22, 2015 after a short illness. Her family rejoices that she has joined her Creator and has found everlasting peace. She is remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother (dida) and sister.
Born in Darjeeling, India, Geeta immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1967 with her husband Sunil Baran Sarkar then moved to her permanent home in Akron, Ohio just two years later. During her time in Akron, she was a dedicated homemaker.
Geeta loved her family and community. She was known for her incredible hospitality and commitment to serving others. Friends and family describe her as generous, kind, and full of laughter. She is preceded in death by her husband, Sunil Baran Sarkar. She is survived by three sisters and two brothers in India; daughters, Mona (Sumana) Sarkar and Monica Matheny; sons Bryan Matheny, Harrison Criss, and Michael Smith; six grandchildren, Tyler, Nicholas and Alexis Smith and Madeline, Genevieve and Charlotte Matheny.
An Indian religious service (Puja) and memorial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 28 at the Billow FAIRLWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. for friends and family. Following will be a Hindu cremation service at 1:30 p.m. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
