Gene Ronald "Ron" Hervol, age 80, of Wadsworth passed away Friday, December 13, 2013, at Hospice Care Center.
Born May 17, 1933 in Akron, he was the son of Emil and Sue (Feldy) Hervol; he graduated from Garfield High School and the University of Akron with a degree in industrial management. He worked most of his career at Babcock and Wilcox in Barberton after serving in the U.S. Army. Ron's love of singing found an outlet with the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church choir, the Akron Symphony Chorus, the Wadsworth Footlighters, and most recently with the Greater Canton Men's Chorus. He was active in the Barberton Kiwanis for many years. Ron and his wife Ruth loved to travel having visited each of the 50 United States, parts of Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, and Israel. He was the proud owner of a 1957 Ford Thunderbird and both he and Ruth were members of the Classic Thunderbird Club of Northern Ohio over 33 years. He and his family hiked in the annual Summit County Metro Parks hiking spree for 45 years. After retirement, Ron enjoyed volunteering at church and delivering meals on wheels with his wife. He also served as a tour guide at Stan Hywet for 13 years.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ruth Lois (Mazak); children David (Hennie) Hervol of Olmsted Twp., Amy (Tyson) Houchin of Wadsworth; grandchildren: Peter Hervol, Alex, Ben, Luke, Emma Houchin.He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Emil.
Always ready to start up a conversation or tell a joke, Ron's kind and loving nature won him many friends over the years.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 50 N. Prospect St., Akron, Ohio 44304, at 11:00am on Thursday, friends will be received 1 hr prior to the service at the church. Private inurnment will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.Memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
