Geneva Rae Wolff, 87, longtime resident of Akron, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Summa Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Raymond Wolff; parents, Gay B. and Lillie Belle Smith; sister, Faye Nelle Brown; and brothers, Hal Smith and Euel Smith. Survivors include 17 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Her Akron-area survivors include beloved niece, Pat Yeager of Munroe Falls; nephew, Bill Wolff of Cuyahoga Falls; and her dear friend, Walter Backlund of Cuyahoga Falls. Mrs. Wolff was dearly loved by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed.
She was as born in Spruce Pine, North Carolina in 1923, and grew up in Akron. She was a 1941 graduate of Akron North High School, and received her bachelors and masters degrees in Education from The University of Akron. After many years of devoted teaching, she retired from the Barberton School system. She enjoyed travel in her retirement, with numerous winter trips to Florida as well as trips around the country to visit her family. She was an active participant in her high school class reunions, including her attendance this past summer in North High School's all-class gathering. She and her beloved husband were avid Cleveland Indians fans.
Aunt Ne-Ne, as she was called by many of her nieces and nephews, was known as everyone's favorite doting aunt. She had a vibrant personality, exquisite taste, and a zest for life. Family and friends knew her for her kind and gentle nature as well as her great sense of humor. She made sure to attend family events-weddings, graduations, and special gatherings-wherever they took place around the country. Her spirit of adventure and her determination to live life to the fullest will continue to serve as an inspiration for her family and friends.
Service will be held 11 a.m. SATURDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Rev. Richard O. Griffith officiating. Interment at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home FRIDAY, 6 to 8 p.m.
