George H. Curley
George H. Curley, 84, of Granger Township, passed away on June 15, 2010.
George was born in Patterson, NJ in 1925 and lived the majority of his life in the Akron and Canton area where he graduated from Akron West High School and Kent State University. He served our country in the US Army from 1944-1946 in the Pacific during World War II and was a Bronze Star recipient. George was an entrepreneur and business leader at heart. He was a pioneer in the charge card receivables management industry as a founder of Chargette, Inc. in 1957, the first business of its kind in Ohio. In 1976, he applied his receivables management expertise to the healthcare industry by founding Professional Receivables Control, Inc. now PRC Medical, LLC, a leader in the medical billing and technology service industry for the past 34 years.
George was active in the community as a member of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association AHEPA, serving as president of the local Akron chapter. He was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, the church?s Male Chorus, and the Greek Men?s Club. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, researching and investing in stocks, and traveling the world. He cherished his wife Athena of 54 years, four children, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
George was preceded in death by his father, Harry G. Curley, and his mother, Freda Curley. He is survived by his wife, Athena; sisters Matilda Blackwood of Fairlawn and Elaine Tom Davenport of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; daughters Frances David Cornell of North Canton, Elaine Randy Herwig of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Carolyn Frank Hill of Massillon; son Harry Jennifer Curley of Bath; grandchildren Ryan Cornell, Vanessa Cornell, Athena Hill, Mary Hill, Christina Hill, Katherine Hill, George Curley, and Audrey Curley; and great-grandson Matthew Cornell.
Funeral services will be held 1pm Monday June 21st at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St., Akron, 44304. Interment immediately following at Rose Hill Burial Park with Military Honors conducted by the US Army along with Copley VFW Post 7971 and American Legion Post 473. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5pm, Trisagion service at 4pm, at the Billow Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd, Akron. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations in George?s memory to the Anthony D. Retikas Scholarship Fund in care of the church, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at
