George R. "Gus" Galehouse Jr. M.D. Passed away peacefully on January 21st, 2018 with his family by his side.
Born in Akron, Ohio December 30th 1929. Gus attended West High School and graduated from the University of Akron where he was a member of the Lone Star Fraternity. He lettered in football playing nose guard on defense. He then attended The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Following medical school he entered the United States Air Force where he was a Flight Surgeon stationed in San Antonio Texas, and then Sault Ste Marie, Michigan attaining the rank of Captain. He then proceeded to intern at Akron City Hospital before completing his residency in OB/GYN at St. Thomas Hospital. Upon completion of his residency, he started his private practice in Cuyahoga Falls. He also became a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He had the pleasure to deliver over 7,000 babies during his career. Being a solo practitioner he was very busy but he truly loved his profession and his patients. His hobbies include skiing, bowling, and billiards. He also loved to hike, completing the Metro Park Hiking Spree over 25 times. He also loved to ride and show his Arabian horses, including one that qualified for Nationals. His true passion was golf. He was a charter member of Silver Lake Country Club. He was a great putter and loved to compete in tournaments. He also loved to meet and have weekly lunches with his fellow doctor buddies "The Lunch Bunch". In retirement he loved to travel. His favorite place was Hilton Head Island where he spent a great deal of time. He also traveled the world enjoying the vast variety of cultures and climates. He lived a full and wonderful life.
Preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret; his sister, Joanne; and his wife, Carol.
Survived by his children, Rob (Peggy) Galehouse, Greg (Shannon) Galehouse, Anne Galehouse, John (Karen) Galehouse; grandchildren, David, Sterling, Meredith, Ali, Beth, Jason; and special caregiver, Maureen Greene.
