George T Manos

March 13, 1927 — September 13, 2014

George T. Manos, 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle passed away peacefully on September 13, 2014.
George was born in Akron, Ohio to Emanuel and Julia Manos. He graduated from West High School, the University of Akron and the University of Cincinnati-College of Law. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Air Force and received numerous military honors.
For over 60 years George practiced law in Akron. He served as Assistant Law Director for the City of Akron, became a partner in the law firm of Cherpas, Manos and Syracopoulos and then became a partner in the law firm of Teodosio, Cherpas, Manos and Ward.
George served terms as treasurer, vice-president and president of the Akron Bar Association. He originated and saw through to completion the writing and publishing of "Order in the Court: The Courts and the Practice of Law in Akron, Ohio 1787-1945" by Stephen H. Paschen and published by the Summit County Historical Society. In 2008, he was named Senior Lawyer of the Year by his peers in the Akron Bar Association.
George was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church where he served on the Board of Trustee from 1960-1966 and then served as President of the Annunciation Parish in 1966-1967. In 1983, George assumed co-chair duties of the Annunciation Décor Project which resulted in the installation of the spectacular iconography for which Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church is so well known. He subsequently chaired the Decor Committee for over 30 years. George was awarded the Saint Paul's Medal by Archbishop Iakovos, the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of North and South America in 1989; this medal is the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese's highest award a layman can receive. He was currently working on the development of a book project detailing the iconography of the Annunciation church.
George generously gave his time and talents to many philanthropic groups in the Akron area such as AHEPA, Annunciation Men's Club, AMHAS and as a 32nd Mason. He was especially proud of his service as chairman of the Akron District Heart Association, honorary trustee on the Board of the Akron District Heart Association, the Board of Trustees of the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine (NEOUCOM) and last but not least, treasurer of the King School Beautification Site Project in 1972-1973.
George was married for 60 wonderful years to his college sweetheart, Helen, who passed away in July of this year. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Anna and James Kamvouris, and infant sister, Fanitsa. He is survived by daughters, June M. "Shelly" (Chris) Partis of Akron, and Kally M. (Bill) Bradshaw of Gahanna, Ohio; sons, Emanuel T. "Manny" (Michele) Manos of Poway, California and Jack G. (Yvonne) Manos of Fairlawn; and grandchildren, Eleni and William Bradshaw, Connor and Mikayla Manos, and Maia, George, Michael and Nicholas Manos. In addition to nieces, nephews and extended family all over the United States and Greece, George leaves behind a host of legal colleagues and close friends too numerous to mention. His outgoing personality and loving spirit attracted many, many people to him throughout his life.
