George Pappas, age 88, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012. Born in Akron, Ohio on September 14, 1923 to parents Charles and Esther Pappas, George lived most of his life in Akron, before residing in Uniontown, Ohio.
George attended Portage Path Elementary School and graduated from West High School Class of 1942, where he made friendships which lasted his entire lifetime.
After college, he came back to West High School where he taught and coached sports. George proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the island of Saipan during World War II.
After the service, George attended Bowling Green State University, Ohio State University and graduated from Kent State University in 1948. He then went on to pursue his law degree and graduated from Akron Law School in 1954.
George had a successful and distinguished law career serving as a Prosecutor with the Summit County Prosecutor's Office and subsequently as a prominent attorney in private practice. His representation of clients in high profile criminal cases were featured on national television crime programs and were the subject of several published books.
During his youth, George excelled in athletics and remained an avid sports fan throughout his life. His favorite pastimes were watching sports and traveling.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Olga Pappas; daughter, Gale Pappas; and uncle, Thomas Wandes. He is survived by wife, Barbara Harnack; daughters, Stephanie Pappas and Laura Pappas; son, George C. Pappas; grandsons, Frank Pappas and Alton McCoy; great-grandson, Nathan Pappas; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Dr. George Van Buren; brother, Dr. P.N. Pappas; and sisters-in-law, Polly Haggis and Patty Kovacs. George is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He also leaves behind his cherished and beloved "little people", Bailey, Melanie and Kiera.
To honor George's final wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no calling hours. There will be a private family service.
