Georgeanna Uetz, 98, died at Manor Care on July 24, 2013.
She was born in Wayne County, Indiana on September 25, 1914 and was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie, and sister, Virginia. She moved to Akron in 1944 and worked many years as a secretary in Cleveland and served 25 years in the water safety program at the American Red Cross.
George, as she was commonly known, loved traveling, having visited Guatemala and Panama, Mexico, Italy, Portugal, England, France, Greece, Banff, Labrador and Newfoundland, New Zealand, and was a passenger on the Orient Express. An avid reader of popular mysteries, George also loved animals. She was legendary for buying 100-pound sacks of peanuts and cracked corn to feed the birds and squirrels. A dog lover, George would care for and give biscuits to neighborhood dogs. Fiercely independent, George lived alone until she was well into her 90s.
Cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Akron. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
