Gerald Gene “Woody” Woodward , age 90, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 28, 2024.
Woody was born on November 6, 1933, in Creston, Ohio to Oberine (nee Eddington) and Clayton Woodward. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1951 and the University of Akron in 1956 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After serving in the United States Air Force, he worked for Ohio Bell (AT&T), retiring after 35 years.
Woody is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Phyllis (nee Warner), daughters Lisa (Billy) Reiter and Linda (Robert) Toth; grandchildren Amy (Garing) Armstead, Bethany Reiter, Bo Reiter, and Jonathon Clouse; great grandchildren Calahan Armstead and Colt Clouse; and brother Raymond Dale (Sharon) Woodward.
As a child of God, Woody was a long-time member of Fairlawn Lutheran Church and served in the Braille Ministry, Brown Baggers (lunches for the homeless), taught Bible Study and held various offices serving his Lord. He raised and showed horses for over 50 years.
No calling hours will be observed per his wishes.
On Friday, May 10, 2024, at 11:00AM there will be a graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 2580 Romig Rd, Akron.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank or Lutheran Braille Ministry at Fairlawn Lutheran Church .
