Sergeant, Gilbert A. Aguirre, 96, died peacefully in Marietta, Georgia on April 23, 2019. A veteran of World War II, he served in the infantry during the Battle of the Bulge.
He was born on September 16, 1922 in Akron, Ohio. He later joined the armed forces and was assigned to the Division of the Army. After completing basic training, he was assigned to the 99th Division and deployed to Normandy. Mr. Aguirre was discharged with full honors. He spent the next 30 years working for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and living in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
Sergeant Aguirre was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He married Geraldine Mary Geoghan in Racine, Wisconsin shortly after the war. They were happily married for 62 years.
Gilbert is survived by his son, Greg Aguirre of Michigan and his daughter Giselle Stone of Georgia; his six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gerry and his sister and four brothers.
The burial will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
