Gordon Smith

Gordon Smith died peacefully on February 17.

He was born on August 9, 1930 in Michigan City, Indiana, the only child of Eric and Connie (Hewitt) Smith. After a stint in the United States Navy, he attended the University of Illinois. He graduated in 1954 and married Elizabeth (Lipousky) that same year. He had a long career as a mechanical engineer, first with Combustion Engineering, and then with GPD and Associates.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth; children, Anne (Doug) Schwan, Mike (Vicki) Smith, Paul (Liz) Smith, Jim (Peggy) Smith; and grandchildren, Ben , Katie (Mason Milani), Clara and Luke Schwan, Lauren, Megan, Eric, Erin, Andy (Katie), Ryan (Samantha) and Ethan Smith. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew Smith. He is deeply loved and will be missed.

The family wants to give special thanks to Denise Mrdjanov and the staff at Legacy Living for their kind and loving care of Gordon in his last years.

Services will be held 10 a.m. SATURDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd, with the Rev. Debra Q. Bennett officiating. Interment at West Richfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 9am to 10am. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Akron Children's Hospital or Wishes Can Happen. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
