Grace V. Finney

April 20, 1913 — January 11, 2009

Grace V. Finney
Grace V. Finney, 95, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2009 at the Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service in Copley, Ohio.

She was born on April 20, 1913 to the late Albert and Marie Freudeman. As the wife of the late Addis Finney, Grace spent many years abroad, living in Basel, Switzerland, London, and Paris, but always regarded Akron as her true and happiest home. She was a long standing member of the Akron Woman's City Club. In her later years, Grace became a kind and generous benefactor to numerous cultural, religious, and social organizations she wished to support. This benevolence extended to family members as well.

Grace needed nothing materially. She found her happiness in simple things. She fed the birds and the squirrels, planted her geraniums where she could see them from her kitchen window and taught us to revel in the warmth of the sun, take note of the sparkle on the snow, and pay attention to the softness of the breeze. Her family-those who have passed, those that survive-were to her most dear.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Addis; her sisters, Kathryn and Edith and very recently by her adored niece, Holly Serge. She is survived by her sisters, Marie Koehler and Helen Petersen; nieces, Joyce Mollenkopf Merle, Jane Miles, Mary Mansour, and Anne Petersen; nephews, James Koehler, Michael Hood Gail, and Stephen Petersen Barbara. She also leaves Marielle and Ava Serge and their father, Michael Serge, as well as many extended family members and their children.

The family wishes to thank Vickie for her long years of devoted service to Grace, and also to Linda for caring for Grace during the years of her dialysis.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Dr. Donard M. Engle and Rev. Daniel E. Young officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour before services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Planned Parenthood of Northeast Ohio, Summit County Historical Society or Grace United Church of Christ of Loyal Oak.
