Grace Beck Renner
Grace Beck Renner, 80, of Akron, passed away October 21, 2008.
A Toledo, Ohio native, Mrs. Renner was a 1945 graduate of Ottawa Hills High School and earned her B.A. in Education from Vassar College. After college, she worked at Henry Street Settlement Daycare Center in New York City before moving to Akron to marry. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband and companion of 52 years, Charles E. Renner, whom she deeply missed.
Grace was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She loved her dear "Bridge Club" friends. She especially loved time spent with her family, cheering on her children and grandchildren at countless tennis matches, WABL baseball games, swim meets and activities throughout the years. She was an avid tennis player, and enjoyed summer vacations at Clear Lake, Indiana. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Akron and Portage Country Club. Her community involvements include: member of Junior League of Toledo and Junior League of Akron; PEO; volunteer counselor at Firestone High School; volunteer with Akron Child Guidance Center, among others. She was also a prominent member of the Toledo Day Nursery.
Grace is survived by sisters, Barbara Weber Glasener Bob and Virginia Beck Reichart, both of Toledo; brother- and sisters-in-law, Daniel and Donna Renner of Valparaiso, Ind., and Elizabeth Renner of Alexandria, Va. She will be terribly missed by her five sons and their families, Charles E. Kathleen Renner, Jr. of Akron, Rick Chris Renner of Shaker Heights, Dave Ann Renner of Naples, Fla., John Renner special friend Jacqueline Phillips of Akron, and Bob Patti Renner of Fairlawn; and her 13 adoring grandchildren, Charlie and Elizabeth of Akron, Alison, Jack and Ricky of Shaker Heights, Kelsey, Katie, Scotty and Camie of Naples, Daniel and Andrew of Akron, and Sammy and Teddy of Fairlawn. She was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law, John C. Renner of Alexandria, Ray Weber of Wantagh, N.Y., and Darryl Reichert of Toledo.
The Renner family is especially grateful to the staff of The Ledges at Rockynol for the exceptional care they provided.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. SATURDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Dr. Jay Marshall Groat officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
