Grace C. (Ruby) Reginald Scott, 87, passed away on February 25, 2015.
Mrs. Scott was a longtime resident of Silver Lake and a classically trained vocalist who was a graduate of the Eastman School of Music. She continued her vocal training in New York City and subsequently appeared with many leading symphony orchestras in the Midwest, including the Cleveland Orchestra and Akron Symphony Orchestra. In 1973 she was a featured vocalist at the inaugural concert for the E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall and had 19 appearances with the Akron Symphony as a soloist. A mezzo-soprano, she appeared under the batons of many leading conductors of the day including George Szell, Louis Lane, Robert Shaw, Pierre Boulez, Raphael Frubeck de Burgos, and Eric Leinsdorf. Additionally, she appeared with the St. Louis Symphony and numerous times with the Columbus Symphony. She was a founding member of the Cuyahoga Valley Arts Ensemble and sang in the world premiere of 'Serenade on Five English Poems" by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, Ned Rorem. In 1981 she received the Ohioana Music Citation for distinguished service to Ohio in the field of music as a skilled singing artist and vocal coach.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many, world traveler, and supporter of the arts. She was a graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School, a 50+ year member of the Tuesday Musical Association, an avid PEO sister of 26 years, and a longtime member of the Friends of Music organization and The Church in Silver Lake.
Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her distinguished husbands, pianist Arthur Reginald and Goodyear chemist Dr. Kenneth W. Scott; her mother Grace Ruby; father Clarence Ruby, DDS; and brother Robert Ruby. She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, John and Carol Reginald of Stow; daughter Nancy Scott of La Crescent, Minn; daughter Barbara Scott and son-in-law Volker Gansauer of Los Angeles; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Jackie Scott of Los Angeles; and grandchildren Kelly Reginald (Chris) Hydeck; Lauren Reginald (Brian) Pauley; Lindsay, Courtney and Bryan Reginald; Alison Conniff (Justin) Robinson; and Katie and April Conniff; and Gena Scott-Gansauer; and great-grandchildren John Joseph Hydeck and Liam Robinson.
Calling hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 6 at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd Street, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223. A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at The Church in Silver Lake, 2951 Kent Rd, Silver Lake. Private interment will be at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park in Cuyahoga Falls.
