Dr. Grant William Mabee (Bill) passed into the hands of our loving God on December 11, 2018 after a long illness. He was 82.
He was born January 8th 1936 in Cleveland Ohio to Dr. Horace Grant Mabee, MD and Evelyn Watson Mabee. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pamela Ann Mabee and beloved granddaughter, Sarah Margaret Ann Mabee. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sylvia Ann Mabee; brother, Dr. Michael Scott Mabee; five children including, Scott (Ellen) Mabee, Chris (Kim) Mabee, Stuart (Stephanie) Mabee, Michael Mabee and Michelle (Mike) Giovannelli; ten grandchildren including, Sean (Kelly) Mabee, Samantha (Blake) Moore, Lauren and Kendall Mabee, Jackson Mabee, Ethan and Will Mabee, and Caleb and Cameron Giovannelli; four great grandchildren including, Selah, Zoe and Arrow Moore and Rowan Mabee; and his Westie, Willie.
Bill grew up in Cleveland Heights and did his undergraduate training at The Ohio State University graduating in 1958. He then attended Queens University in Kingston Ontario for medical school where his father also was educated, graduating in 1963. He then did postgraduate training in medicine and gastroenterology at Huron Road Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic. Bill and Sylvia then moved to the Akron area where Sylvia grew up. Bill practiced medicine for over 30 years at the Akron Clinic, St. Thomas, Akron City and Akron General Hospitals, the latter for which he served as chief of medical staff at one time.
Bill and Sylvia loved boating and spent many days, kids in tow, on the west end of Lake Erie near the islands. They continued in this adventure until health made it difficult late in life. He also loved his family dearly, practicing medicine (missing it in retirement), visiting Florida in the winter months, watching the Buckeyes and Cavs play, and listening to John Denver and The Ohio State marching band. Bill and Sylvia have been long term members of Fairlawn Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank Dr. Esther Rehmus, Dr. Ray Bermea, the entire staff at Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center, and Pastor Jim Gau for all their help and kindness in dealing with Bill's care.
