Gregory N Thomarios

May 28, 1938 — July 14, 2024

Gregory N. Thomarios , 86, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2024, after a long illness.

He was a devoted husband of 52 years to Daryl, and loving father to Elizabeth and Christopher (Helena).  His three grandchildren, Kalliopi, Madeline and Milo, provided him much joy.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Stella; father, Nick; step-mother, Kalliopi; and uncle, Aristides.

Born in Greece during the German occupation, Greg learned how to survive under tremendously difficult circumstances.  He immigrated to the United States, settling in Akron, Ohio, and quickly had a paint brush in his hand.  Greg later traded in his paintbrushes to build houses.  He founded Olympic Builders where he constructed and sold countless homes in Summit County.  Always a risk taker, he specialized in custom spec houses because, as he would say, he did not like anyone telling him what to do.

Greg was proud of his Greek heritage and to be an American.  He served in the US Army and often spoke of his accomplishments in the infantry, shooting competition in the Rifle Detachment.

Greg took great care of his friends and family.  He was a generous man, happy to give you whatever you needed, whether it be money, a trinket from Marcs, Sams Club or something he hand-crafted.  He loved to pick, grow and buy flowers to brighten his wife’s day.

Greg loved cars, especially Ferraris.  He enjoyed traveling to car shows all over with his car guys, but really enjoyed his yearly trip to Florida for the Ferrari Car Show.  You could often see Greg driving around town in his “Funny Car”.  When he wanted to go a little faster, he would tool around in his s2000.

Greg loved vacationing with his family and collecting seashells.  He worked until he could work no more, always developing deals and trying to think of something creative to do.  He took care of others when they were sick.  We are forever grateful for Hazel, Penny and Debbie, who worked tirelessly to provide Greg with the best care these last few years.  He will be terribly missed.

Funeral service will take place THURSDAY, July 18, 2024, at 11:30 AM at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Fairlawn, OH 44333. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment immediately following in Moore’s Chapel Cemetery.
