H. Howard Hollingsworth

July 15, 1953 — September 26, 2024

H. Howard Hollingsworth , 71, passed away September 26, 2024.

Lifelong student of political discourse.
Believer in justice and the rule of law.
Optimistic that despite many differences, humans could coexist and thrive.

Howard relished the stories of people and teams overcoming the odds - even if the celebration was limited to the individual or group. Sometimes, though, the victory would inspire a population and the world became a better place for all people.

Since his youth, he was blessed with travel through 50 states and Europe and the experiences of place and people. Having been in locations of note and standing in the footprints of significant figures made history books come alive. It gave perspective on how we came to be where we are in our human story.

In school, work, and life he enjoyed the extracurriculars: scouts, baseball, stadium PA, student government, newspaper editor, staff rep. They painted a picture of how we play and work. Ultimately, developing an understanding of many perspectives and the negotiations to meld them was paramount.

He felt a duty to volunteer with worthy political candidates beginning with John Seiberling in 1970. The campaigns answered a need for the excitement of the chase and spiritual satisfaction of supporting representatives who understood the needs of a population diverse in need and belief.

Howard enjoyed helping others with their pursuits of knowledge through his 20 years of working with the Stark County Library, largely at the Jackson Branch.

Cleveland sports and Sunday afternoon golf were favorite pastimes.

He looked forward to golfing with his friend, Jim, and joining friends for small-pot poker and outings to his friends’ local comedic stage presentations.

For those who try to make sense of the world spiritually and intellectually, it is ironic that dementia becomes the factor in their ultimate demise. It doesn’t happen fast; it takes its toll slowly but steadily. It reminds us to be joyful in what we are given today.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents Harry H. and Betty B. Hollingsworth, for whom he provided significant assistance in their later years.

He is survived by his brother Robert, sister-in-law Sue and three nieces Heather (Douglas), Christa (Alex) and Laura; and brother Thomas and sister-in-law Kathryn.

Howard attended Springfield Schools, Hoban High School and the University of Akron. He worked with Minnesota Title, Walden Books, B. Dalton, and the Stark County Library Jackson Branch.

Cremation has taken place. Friends and colleagues are invited to share their thoughts and memories of a life and hope for a better future. Bring joy to someone in your circle.
