Harold Ethan Allan

July 22, 1925 — June 27, 2021

Harold Ethan Allan was born on July 22, 1925 near Waupun, Wisconsin to Harold H. Allan and his wife Gertrude (Peters) Allan. He died on June 27, 2021 in Copley, Ohio. He grew up on a dairy and produce farm outside of Waupun along with 4 older brothers and 4 sisters all of whom are now deceased. In 1949, he married his much loved wife Shirley Vivian Fabian whom he lost 6 years ago in September of 2014. They were married for 65 years. He is survived by his three daughters, Terri Lynn Nesrsta (Jeffery), Heidi Ann Allan and Amy Lou Whetro (Ric), 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Harold graduated from Waupun High School in the spring of 1943 and registered for the draft in July of that year after turning 18. In October of 1943 he was inducted into the army and reported for active duty on November 20th under the A-12 Army Specialized Training program. He received his basic training at Fort Benning, GA where he qualified as an expert rifleman and was then assigned to the 87th Infantry Division, known as the Golden Acorn Division, at Fort Jackson, SC. From there he was sent to the European front where he served in the Third Army under George Patton as an infantry Staff Sargent. He fought on the front lines during the Battle of the Bulge in the Saar Valley of France, near Bonnerue and St. Hubert in Belgium and then at the border between Luxembourg and Germany. He also participated in the drive through Germany to Czechoslovakia.

After the war, Harold enrolled at the University of Wisconsin in Madison studying chemical engineering. He graduated with his Chemical Engineering degree in 1950. Specializing in the plastics industry, he spent his career with such notable companies as A. Schulman, Conoco and C P Hall developing specialized plastic compounds and applications. He was active for many years with his church and army division association.

Services will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church on Wednesday, July 7th at Noon. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Flowers will be accepted at the church or memorial donations can be sent to Bethel Lutheran Church, 3852 Everett Rd., Richfield, OH 44286 or made in Harold’s honor to the Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org.
