Hazel Ilene Vogelsang

Hazel Ilene Vogelsang, 85, of Akron, peacefully left her earthly life on December 21, 2012 .

She was born on October 31, 1927 in Aneta, ND to Ole and C. Sophie Hoistad. Hazel grew up in Enderlin, ND, graduated from Enderlin High School, trained at St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Fargo, ND and served in the Nurse Cadet Corps. She married Donald R. Vogelsang on September 11, 1949. They moved to Akron, OH where Don was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. He served in the International Division and they lived on every continent during his employment with Goodyear except Antarctica. Hazel visited Antarctica on a cruise when she was 80 years old. Hazel was a great golfer and had lots of fun and made great memories whether it was participating in the national amateur tournaments in the Philippine Islands in the 1960s or her leagues at Barberton Brookside and Good Park. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed embroidery, knitting and crocheting as well. She was a member of the Stan Hywet Needlework Guild. She also enjoyed bridge, spending time with her friends and volunteering at her church, Holy Trinity Lutheran.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Donald Tellman. Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Stanley Hoistad and his wife, Dorothy of Grand Forks, ND; eight nieces and nephews, Kathy (Richard) Burton of Longmont, CO, James (Cathy) Tellman of Evergreen, CO, Mary (Richard) Ziegler of Toledo, OH, Susan (Warren) Schumacher of Happy Valley, OR, Gregory (Sheri) Hoistad of Bloomington, MN, Peter (Melanie) Hoistad of Grand Forks, ND, Ross (Cindy) Vogelsang and Joan (Jake) Spitzer both of Bismarck, ND. Also surviving are 10 great nieces and nephews; 5 great-great nieces and nephews.

Hazel lived a long and rich life. We will smile through our tears and remember her gentle spirit, kindness and graceful ways, her ability to have everything "just so" and her love for her family and friends. The family would like to thank Great Lakes Caring Hospice and Concordia at Sumner for all their loving care during the last year.

There will be no visitation at this time and the burial will be private. A celebration of her life will be held later for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Akron or Great Lakes Caring Hospice. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
