Helen Irene Ciraldo

Helen Ciraldo died peacefully on July 16, 2024, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.  She was 105 years old and lived in Hattiesburg with her son, Bob and his wife, Peg since 2015.  Helen was born in Akron, Ohio on August 23, 1918.  She had a full life and experienced a span of history that few of us alive today can equal.

She was married to Robert I. Ciraldo, of Akron, for 68 years and the couple lived in various places in the United States and Europe as Bob pursued a long career in the Army after serving in WW II. When Bob retired in 1972, the couple returned to live in Akron until Bob’s death in 2010.  Helen then lived with their only son, Bob and his wife, Peg, first in Florida and then in Hattiesburg, MS where she died.

Helen was a devoted wife and mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She was a proud and accomplished homemaker, an avid gardener with significant floral artistic skills, and a lover of all animals and pets.  She was active in her Church and always showed interest in world events.  She had a great sense of humor.  For these and other reasons she was a broadly admired and loved family member, and a dear friend to those who lived near her.

Helen is survived by her son, Robert A. Ciraldo and his wife, Peg of Hattiesburg, MS, and their three sons: Robert T. Ciraldo and Jasmine Sekyi of Seattle, WA and their two sons, George and Roger; Nicholas A. Ciraldo and his wife Rachel of Hattiesburg, MS and their son, Luca; and Joseph I. Ciraldo and his wife, Bryce of Findlay, Ohio and their two daughters, Jude and Nora.

Friends may call on FRIDAY, July 26, 2024, at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Fairlawn, OH 44333 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on SATURDAY, July 27, at 11:00 AM at St. Sebastian Parish, 476 Mull Rd. Akron, OH 44320. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
