Helen Davison Fleming

April 14, 1930 — February 21, 2024

Helen Davison Fleming passed away on 21 Feb. 2024. She was born in Leavenworth, Kansas, the only daughter of Leroy and Beatrice Davison. Helen attended Nebraska Wesleyan College where she earned her degree in music.  She met her husband Chisna Fleming in Lincoln, Nebraska. They married on Christmas Eve 1951 and remained happily married for 54 years until his death in 2006.

The couple moved to Paducah, Kentucky and Helen taught elementary school. In 1955 the family moved to Akron, Ohio when Chisna went to work for Ohio Edison. Helen spent the next 65 years in Akron, then relocated nearby to live with her daughter Giselle.

A lover of music and the theater, Helen and Chisna became active in the Weathervane Playhouse. In the early years they performed in some productions, then became a part of the theater board, competing closely for top season ticket sales.  Her membership with the theater lasted sixty years. She was also a member of, and sang in the choir, Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Akron. She was active in Meals on Wheels, volunteered as a tax preparer through AARP, and served leadership roles at Weathervane and for the U.S.S. Cowpens reunion association; Chisna’s WWII navy ship.  She loved to travel with her husband and visited every state and made some trips to Europe.

She was predeceased by her parents LeRoy and Beatrice Davison, her husband Chisna “Cue” Fleming, her son Kevin Fleming, and her brother Harold Davison.

She is survived by her son Martin and daughter-in-law Monika Fleming of Tarboro, North Carolina, her daughter Giselle and son-in law Kevin Westmeyer of Canton, her daughter Rachel and son-in-law Brian Bean of Akron. Her extended family include niece Mary Upton, nephew Mark Davison and wife Lisa, nephew Jeff Davison and wife Vanessa all of Raleigh, NC and nephew Scott Davison and wife Joan of Florida, cousins Richard Mettee of Kansas City and Ivan Davison of Colorado, many in-laws and great nieces and nephews, and many dear friends who share many memories.

Memorial donations can be made to Church of our Saviour at 471 Crosby Street, Akron, OH 44302 and/or Weathervane Community Playhouse of 1301 Weathervane Lane, Akron, OH 44313 or to the “Chisna Henry Fleming Scholarship” at Chadron State College, 1000 Main Street, Chadron NE 69337. NO FLOWERS PLEASE .

Friends may call on MONDAY, March 4, 2024 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Fairlawn, OH 44333. Memorial service will take place TUESDAY, March 5, at 12:00 NOON at Church of Our Saviour, 471 Crosby St., Akron, OH 44302. Inurnment immediately following in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
