Helen Pachares Goumas passed away peacefully on February 9, 2022 at the age of 100. She was a faithful servant to family, church, and community: Philoptochos president, Good Samaritans, Daughters of Penelope, Children’s Services Advisory Board, Interfaith Caregivers and many more. Known for her Greek hospitality and cooking, none who came left without a treat or beverage.
She was preceded in death by husband Jim Goumas 34 years ago, parents Gust and Panagiota Pachares, and sister Lula Rafailedes. She was the mother of Dean Goumas/Linda, Nick Goumas/Diane, Pam Kesler/Jerry, grandmother of Christopher Goumas/Cheryl, Kimberly Misener/Doug, Laura Mullins/Don, Athena Averette/David, Michael Kesler, Emily Flores/Andre, great-grandmother of Riley and Peyton Goumas, Alicia and Josh Misener, Carter and Caitlyn Templeman, Luke Averette. She is survived by brothers Jim Pachares, Tony Pachares/Athena, sister Sylvia Eliopoulos, sisters-in-law, Mary Mitchell, Cal Kody, nieces, nephews, godchildren and many friends and relatives.
Friends may call 4-6 p.m. THURSDAY, February 17 at Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd, Akron. Services will be held 11 a.m. FRIDAY February 18 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S Union St, Akron, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorials can be made to Philoptochos Society “Melissa” c/o Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
