Helen V. Nicholaides

Helen V. Nicholaides, 90, passed from here to heaven on Monday, June 11, 2012, in North Hills, Pa.

Born Oct. 10, 1921, in Canton, Ohio, the former Helen Louis was an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Akron, Ohio, for almost 80 years. She married Nick, the love of her life in 1949, and raised a beautiful family, spending 58 years together until his passing in 2007. A graduate of Akron Central High School, Helen served as a Rosie the Riveter during World War II, worked at Ethel Wilson's Fashions and sold real estate at Carolyn Riley. She belonged to the Icarian Society of Akron and volunteered with the Good Samaritan program. Her life was like a Greek wedding: celebrating her Orthodox faith, loving her family and friends, and enjoying Greek food and dance.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Emmanuel and Mary, and her siblings, Ted, Nina, Lou, Alex and Hope. She will be missed by her children, Paula (Alex) Kappos, Stasie (Jennifer) Nicholaides, Larry (Rita) Nicholaides; grandchildren, Maria (Bob) Kehres, Chris (Tabitha) Kappos, Kindra, Michael (Anna), Jason and Leam Nicholaides, Peter (Susan) Mangiameli, David (Holly) Mangiameli, Marisa (Brad) Kalmar; great-grandchildren, Jack, Ryan and Sophia Kehres, Gabrielle, Christian, and Peter Mangiameli, David and Sophia Mangiameli, and Luke Ellis Nicholaides; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and other loved ones.

Come and join us as we honor her life with our prayers, memories and love. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St., Akron, OH 44304, with Rev. Fr. Jerry Hall officiating. Interment at Glendale Cemetery. Friends may call at the Billow Falls Chapel, 1907 23rd Street, Cuyahoga Falls, on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Trisagion will take place at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests making donations to ZOE for Life, serving women in distress, at 3352 Mayfield Road, Cleveland Heights, OH 44118.
