Helen Killory Qammar

Helen Killory Qammar, 54, passed away Monday evening in Akron.

Born in Syracuse, N.Y., she lived in Akron for most of her adult life. She worked for 23 years as a Professor of Chemical Engineering at The University of Akron, and for the last six years served as Director of the Institute for Teaching and Learning on campus.

She was predeceased by her brother, John T. Killory, in 2011. She is survived by her loving sons, Shammas Malik and Najjam Malik of Akron, Ohio; seven of her siblings, Patricia Sullivan of Cincinnati, Ohio, Martin F. Killory Jr. of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Eileen Killory of Berkeley, Calif., James Killory of Philadelphia, Pa., William Killory of Syracuse, N.Y., Grace Leff of Syracuse, N.Y., and Marie Killory of Atlanta, Ga., as well as Mary Theofanos and Charles Romine of Gaithersburg, Md., and countless more friends and family.

A memorial service will be held at The University of Akron's Martin Center, 105 Fir Hill St., Akron, OH 44325-2603 on Friday, January 11 at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Helen Killory Qammar Memorial Fund at The University of Akron's Department of Development, care of The University of Akron Foundation Department of Development, Akron OH 44325-2603.
