Helen Louise Moore Swartz
Helen Swartz, 98, passed away in the peace and comfort of the Hospice Care Center on Ridgewood Road, March 16, 2009.
Born in Akron on November 26, 1910, Helen was the only child of the late Charles and Louise Moore. She graduated from West High School, Hammel Actual Business School and went to work for The J.V. Swartz Candy Company as secretary to J.V. In 1937, Helen married the boss's son, Forest. Helen was a past president of Rotary Ann and King School PTA. She was a former member of Akron Woman's City Club, Greenvale Garden Club, and belonged to the Fairlawn Country Club. She grew up in Grace Evangelical and Reformed Church on Bowery and was in Friendly Circle.
Helen was widowed in 1977 and is survived by three children, Linda J. Dan O'Brien of Copley, Nancy Kirby Harder, Sr. of Copley, and John Swartz of Sandusky Marilyn Swartz of Medina. Helen was very proud of her seven grandchildren, O'Brien grandchildren: Terri Jeffrey Grant; Kelli Francesco DeCarlo; and Kevin Starr; Harder grandchildren: Kirby, Jr. Christine, and Kristin Troy Kovick; John V. Julie and Michael Swartz. She always had a warm smile for her eight great-grandchildren: Maria and Nicholas Grant, Anthony and Joseph DeCarlo, Kenna O'Brien, Kirby Harder III, and Kaila and Pierson Kovick.
Helen was very giving to her family and took great interest in all they did. She and Forest enjoyed traveling and spending time on their boat, Kandee. Helen had the uncanny ability to choose changes in her life at the right time. She enjoyed her final years at Chambrel.
Special thanks to Dr. John Kromalic, Heatherwood Hall Staff, plus the very professional and caring staff of the Hospice Care Center.
A private family service will be held with Reverend Richard Beck officiating. Memorials in Helen's name can be made to: Copley Fire and Rescue, 1540 S. Cleveland-Massillon Road, Akron, OH 44321 or Hospice Care Development Fund, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, OH 44333.
