Henry J. ``Hank' Brecht, 92, passed away on August 12, 2010.
He was born on August 5, 1918, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Henry William and Anna Louise Trauger Brecht. He graduated from Ashtabula H.S., attended Ohio Wesleyan University where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, and studied Business Administration. He retired from Firestone Tire & Rubber Company after 39 years of employment.
Hank was a member of the West Akron Kiwanis Club for 43 years past club secretary and president; Lt. Governor of Division 16W, Ohio District, Kiwanis International; recipient of the George F. Hixson Award; and a Life Member of Kiwanis International. Mr. Brecht was also a member of Christ United Methodist Church for many years. Hank greatly enjoyed his years as an avid bowler, golfer, and traveler, visiting 27 countries with his wife, Vonnie.
Henry was preceded in death by his sister and brother and by his daughter, Karen Brecht. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne ``Vonnie', Akron; daughter, Mary Lou Duane Johnson; grandchildren, Dr. Katherine Johnson and Andrew Molly Johnson, all of Denver.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with William R. Pierce officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. and one-half hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the West Akron Kiwanis Foundation, Inc. c/o R. MacCallum, 1148 W.
