Heraldine M Long

April 4, 1923 — December 28, 2010

Heraldine Deanie M. Long, 87, died December 28, 2010.

Born in Lakeland, Florida, she moved to Akron Ohio to fulfill her goals of raising her family in a small community.

She was committed to helping people, evident by her lifelong career choice as a registered nurse. During the early phase of her career, she worked at Children's Hospital as well as People's Hospital now known as Akron General. She was dedicated to passing her knowledge on to others, and served many years as an instructor and administrator at Akron General's School of Nursing. She was very much loved and respected by her many students. In later years, she transferred to the department of Staff Development and worked as a nursing coordinator.

Deanie was also an active member of the community, and dedicated many years of service to Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens. She shared the Seiberling family history by providing house tours with local area school children, out-of-town visitors, small groups and individuals, as well as special friends. Her favorite tour to share was the ``Nooks and Crannies Tour'.

Ever faithful to God, Deanie insisted on having her family attend church services weekly. She and her husband gave many years of service to the U.C.C. church and found a special place as members of The Bath Church, U.C.C. Deanie attended weekly Bible studies there and looked forward to her meetings with the church's Craft Group.

She had many interests, was an avid reader and an accomplished seamstress. Deanie enjoyed getting the family together for special dinners and birthday celebrations, and spending time with close friends. She was the ``rock' of the family, a true matriarch whose quiet strength and determination provided guidance to the family throughout the years of her life.

Preceded in death by her husband, Walter and grandson, Clifford Cottrill; she is survived by her son, Gregory Brenda Long; daughter, Dorothy Long; grandchildren, Jennifer Slusser James and Brian Cottrill; great-grandsons, Hunter and Collin.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, January 7th at The Bath Church, U.C.C., 3980 W. Bath Rd., Akron with Rev. Mark W. Frey officiating.
