Herbert O. Jacobsen
Herbert "Herb" Jacobsen, 77, passed away suddenly on February 10, 2009.
A gregarious and generous man, Herb was a great friend, devoted husband, wonderful father, and a special delight to small children and animals. Born in Staten Island, N.Y. to Norwegian immigrants, Henry and Theodora Jacobsen, Herb was the youngest of four boys. He was educated in local schools, graduating from Wagner College, taking his first job in New York City. Herb then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he married and started his family. Herb was an executive in the chemical and plastics industry, working during his career for Monsanto, A. Shulman Inc. & BF Goodrich. In his later life, Herb did fundraising for United Way and Vision Support Services. Herb was a member of the Akron Host Lions Club, Sons of Norway Arctic Circle Lodge 5-662, ARC, and Alcoholics Anonymous.
Herb was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Beatrice, but is survived by a son, Jon Jacobsen of Akron, a son and daughter-in-law Allen and Aimee Jacobsen of W. Lafayette, Ind. and daughter and son-in -law Melissa and James Robinson of Norfolk, Conn., and five grandchildren.
