Herbert "George" Matheos, 89, passed away December 12, 2017
He was born November 6, 1928 in Akron, Ohio and was a resident of Fairlawn, Ohio for 51 years. He graduated from North High school as Valedictorian and joined the US Army in 1950. George retired from Akron Standard Foods after 40 years of service where he made many friends in the restaurant business. George supported his wife and worked for the Longaberger Company for over 20 years where he made even more lifelong friends
He led a very active life and enjoyed the outdoors, especially lying about the fish he caught with his nephew Steve. He was devoted to his family and his many friends and had a contagious sense of humor and was loved by everyone that knew him. George was a lifelong member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
Preceded in death by his father, John; mother, Julia; brother, Michael; sister, Irene; he is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Maria C. (nee Dallas) Matheos; daughter, Maria (Mark) Cronin; son, John (Jen) Matheos; grandchildren, Theodore W. Cronin, Nathaniel G. Cronin, Nicholas J. Matheos; and sister, Kathie Madias.
The Family would like to thank all of the excellent health professionals that cared and loved our father at DaVita Dialysis Center, Akron Veterans Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic Akron, Copley Medical Group, Fairlawn Rehab and Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospice Care Center.
Calling hours will be held 6 to 8 p.m. FRIDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., where the Trisagion Service will take place at 7 p.m. Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. SATURDAY at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. Jerry Hall and Fr. Andrew Lentz officiating. Entombment at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox, Anthony Retikas Scholarship Fund, 129 S.
