Ida L. Telford Solt passed away December 30, 2011 peacefully after a short illness.
Born in Creston, Ohio September 19, 1911, she was a lifetime resident of Cuyahoga Falls and Akron where she played the piano for many local events including radio and television. She was co-star of the Dot and Ida radio show that aired in the 1930's. She managed the sheet music department at the M. O'Neil Company for several years. She taught piano for 17 years and was a member of the Ohio Teachers Association, National Guild of Piano Teachers and the Akron Musicians Union. Ida's piano playing brought joy to anyone that heard one of her performances. On her 100th birthday party at The Village at St. Edward she played songs on request for over one hour to an audience of over 80 residents, family and staff.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Harry F. Telford and her husband of 28 years, Dr. Elmer E. Solt. She is survived by her daughters, Karen Malcosky Joseph and Janet E. Stoffer Gary; granddaughters, Deanne Rine Dave and Julie Manley George; grandsons, David Malcosky Patricia and Jeffrey Stoffer Jill Cluff; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She has three surviving step-children, Shirley Nourjian, Linda Volkes and Don Solt and families. Ida was preceded in death by her brothers, Jim Carter, Kenny Carter and sister, Leona Beichler Denney. Her surviving sister is Margaret Michaels who lives in Akron, Ohio. Ida was dearly loved by her family and friends and she will live on in our memories forever.
A memorial service will be Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 1 p.m at the Fairlawn-West United Church of Christ, 2095 West Market St., Akron, Ohio 44313, with Rev. David A. Loar officiating. Visitation from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vets First, a project of Unit Spinal Association, 54 Nashua Street, Milford, NH 03055 and Hospice of VNS Attention: Development, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, Ohio 44333 or any charity of your choice in Ida's name.
