Dr. Ida Djung Wong, 101, died February 25, 2012.
Preceded in death by her husband, Phillip; she is survived by daughter, Lilly Wong of Auckland, New Zealand; son, Chris Wong of Los Angeles, Calif.; and sister, Florence Chung of Davis, Cailf.
A former member of the Summit County Medical Society, the Ohio State Medical Association and the College of American Pathology, she had worked at Hwa-Mei Hospital in China, D.C. General Hospital in Washington, D.C., Women's Hospital in Cleveland and received her M.D. from the Women's Christian Medical College in Shanghai in 1939. Dr. Djung Wong completed post graduate studies at Harvard Medical College in Boston, Mass. and served her residency at NYU College of Medicine. She was the founder and owner/manager of Akron Medical Laboratory since 1961. Dr. Ida Djung Wong was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Akron.
A memorial service to celebrate Dr. Djung Wong's life will take place Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 1 p.m., in the Chapel at Rockynol Retirement Community, 1150 W. Market St., with Rev. Diane Walker officiating. Private entombment at Rose Hill Burial Park. There are no calling hours. If desired, memorials, may be made to Rockynol.
