Ida Maud Wood completed the final chapter in the book of her life on April 17, 2011.
Chapter 1 began June 3, 1923, in Warren, Ohio, but she lived most of her life in Akron. With degrees from both Ohio State and Kent State Universities, she began her career teaching elementary school and finished her career teaching English at Kent State University. She was a lifetime member of First Congregational Church of Akron. Editor of the Maple Valley News, she was an author, poet, and the matriarch of the family. She led her life by example through caring and giving to many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; son, Phillip; and daughter, Carolyn. She is survived by her son, Chip; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and extended family members and friends.
A private, family graveside service will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park. A memorial service will be held at a future date. The family would like to extend special thanks to all of the nurses, aides, and caregivers, especially Jackie, at Traditions at Bath Road for their kindness and support over the last few years.
