Ilse Katharina Dabernig

Ilse Katharina Dabernig , 81, of Richfield, Ohio passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on the morning of March 1st, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. She was the loving wife of Hans Dabernig for 61 years. She was always the shining light in his life.

Ilse was born in Graz, Austria in 1942. She is preceded in death by her mother and father Olga Taschwer and Karl Strommer, and her sister Gertraud Tedesco. Ilse attended secretary school and started working as a coordinator/manager at a sandpit company when she was 14 years old. Ilse met Hans while working at the sandpit company and Ilse’s boss paid for their wedding. After deciding to move to Ohio in 1963, she and Hans started a small truck repair business in 1971, which then became Hans’ Freightliner of Cleveland in 1991 that is still in business today.

Ilse belonged to St. Victor’s church in Richfield, Ohio. She spent over 15 years as a volunteer and coordinator for the Richfield Meals on Wheels program. She always wanted to help others. She loved spending time planting flowers around her home. She always found time to sit back with a good book and get lost in its pages. She had a love for art and enjoyed painting. She loved music and would sing and hum all the time. She and Hans traveled the world together, and in particular enjoyed trips back to Austria to visit cherished relatives who she loved so much and talked about all the time. In recent years she and Hans loved to take trips around the United States in their motorhome to see National Parks, different beaches, and other wonderful destinations. Most important to Ilse was her time spent at her home with her beloved family – her husband, kids, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her cat, the family dogs, and all her many friends. Ilse will be always remembered for her truly genuine heart, kindness and strength.

Ilse is survived by her husband Hans Dabernig, her children Rob, Alex (Dawn), and Gerry. Her grandchildren Robby (Clair), Paige (Matt), Kati (Christian), Kelly and Grace. Her great-grandchildren Jacob, Layla and Evelyn. Her sister Hildegard , her brother Karli, and her cousin Greterl. Her many nieces, nephews and all her family back in Europe.
