Ira Forrest (Mac) McCans, 89 years old of Fairlawn, passed away on February 1st, 2017 at Concordia at Sumner.
Mac was born in Tulane, IL on February 16, 1927. He graduated from Tulane High School in 1945 and joined the United States Navy, where he worked as a deck hand. He was aboard ship in the Pacific Ocean during the testing of the atomic bomb in World War II. Following the war, he was a television repairman and a wheel and brake technician at Goodyear Aerospace, now known as Lockheed Martin. He retired in 1989 to take care of his wife Marilyn. Mac enjoyed bowling and golf. He was a member of Christ United Methodist church in Akron, where he served on various committees, and was a member of the Bowling League. He was an active member of the Men's Garden Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Marilyn Kline McCans, and his sisters, Arlene White, Dorothy Kurzrock and Marguerite Walker. He is survived by sister, Helen Nay; sons, Don (Ginny) and Jim (Margaret) McCans; grandchildren, Mark (Stefanie), Scott and Eric McCans, and Amanda (Zach) Fox, Katie (Andrew) Guran and Matt McCans; great-grandchildren, Owen and Jackson McCans, and Aaron and Norah Fox, and Lucas Guran.
His celebration of life will occur on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 North Miller Road, Fairlawn, Ohio 44333. Friends may call from 1 until 2 pm. Memorial service is from 2 to 3 pm., Rev. Debbie Gibbons of Christ Woodland United Methodist Church will officiate. Memorials may be made to Christ Woodland United Methodist Church.
