Irvin J. "Irv" Musson, Jr. passed away on June 5, 2015 at the age of 93, after a brief illness.
Born on August 19, 1921, he was a lifelong resident of Akron. After graduating from Buchtel High School, he worked at Goodyear Aerospace before enlisting in the Army Air Corps on December 7, 1942. He flew 35 missions as B-17 bombardier/machine gunner over Germany in the Eighth Air Force, earning the Air Medal. After the war, he attended the University of Akron and married Frances "Fritz" Hill on April 12, 1946. He worked at the family-owned Dauntless Plumbing and Electric Company in downtown Akron before changing careers in 1960 to work at Akron Savings & Loan (later becoming TransOhio Savings). He was the manager of the company's Hudson branch office when he retired in 1988. He was a charter member of the West Akron Kiwanis Club, and was a dedicated member of the Hudson Rotary Club. Irv was an Emeritus Director of the University of Akron Foundation, and was a founding trustee of the R. C. & Katharine Musson Charitable Foundation. He was also a member of the Toast Masters and the No-Name Club, and was a long-time member of West Congregational Church, which later became Fairlawn-West Congregational Church. He had a lifelong passion for cars, planes, and trains, but always described his hobby as "just enjoying life".
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin J. and Edith Mae (Kitzelman) Musson; his sister, Anne Wolfe, and his beloved wife of 58 years, Fritz. He is survived by his sons, Irvin J. "Jay" Musson III of Akron, John R. Musson of North Ridgeville, and Robert A. Musson, M.D. of Medina. He also leaves ten grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Arrangements are through the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, with a private burial service at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the University of Akron Foundation, P.O. Box 2203, Akron, OH. 44398-9649. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
