J. Bruce Hunsicker, 55, died March 10, 2010 after a long battle against prostate cancer.
Born in Akron, he was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. A graduate of The Ohio State University and The University of Akron School of Law, Bruce was an attorney at Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP. Past chairman and board member of the Y.M.C.A., he was a graduate of Leadership Akron. A member of Hill 'N Dale, he loved shooting and model trains. His greatest passion was his family and friends with whom he shared his infectious laugh. Bruce created the One-In-Six Foundation to raise money for prostate cancer research and awareness. This will be his legacy. To honor him, The Mayor of Akron declared October 31, 2009 "J. Bruce Hunsicker Day."
Preceded in death by his mother, Florence; he is survived by his father, Oscar II; wife, Laura; sons, Grant and Steven; brother and sister-in-law, Oscar III and Barbara of Cuyahoga Falls; sister and brother-in-law, Julie and David Basarab of Suwanee, Ga.
Bruce fought long and hard, never giving up, while continuing his fight for others. The One-in-Six Foundation has funded several clinical trials and research projects and will continue to do so well into the future.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. MONDAY at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1361 W. Market St. with Rev. Mark J. Pruitt officiating. Private inurnment at Moore's Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., SATURDAY from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and SUNDAY from 2 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the One in Six Foundation, 106 South Main Street, Suite 1100, Akron, OH 44308
