Jack Edward Holforty
, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on March 27, 2024.
Jack was born in Detroit, MI to Theodore and Sebern Holforty as the younger brother to his sister, Patsy. During childhood, he spent time in IN, IL, and Bexley, OH before moving to Silver Lake where he met Margaret, his loving wife of 63 years. After graduating from The Ohio State University in 1955, Jack was commissioned into the US Air Force. The newlyweds moved to Texas where Jack served as a Navigator Instructor. Upon his Honorable Discharge from active duty, Jack and Margaret moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL where he joined 1st National Bank as a Trust Department Trainee. Within 10 years and after obtaining several additional degrees and certifications, Jack held the role of VP, Trust Officer and Head of Trust Administration within the bank.
Jack and Margaret returned to Ohio at the end of 1969 where his career continued to flourish within the Trust Department of 1st National Bank of Akron. He also entered law school at the University of Akron, graduating with his Juris Doctor in 1974. In addition to his position at the bank as Senior VP and Head of the Trust Department, Jack made community involvement a priority. He served on the Silver Lake Council, was a United Way Trustee, taught Sunday School and was a Deacon and Church Moderator. Upon their return to FL in 1979, Jack served on several advisory boards for schools, foundations, and community organizations, and was the Instructor & Director of Florida Trust School at the University of Florida.
After working several more years in senior Trust roles, Jack retired in Ohio to enjoy some well-deserved recreation (GOLF!), travel with Margaret and time with friends and family. He will be remembered for his youthful energy, quick wit and teasing, dedication to Buckeye sports, love of trying new things and kind spirit. Jack was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be tremendously missed!
Jack is survived by his children, Laurie (Eric) Johnson and Jack D. (Kristin) Holforty. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Trent (Jessica) Johnson, Jack Cameron (Amrita) Johnson, Shane Johnson, Jackson Holforty, Taylor Holforty and three great grandchildren, Lucy, Connor and Caleb Johnson. He was preceded by Margaret who passed away in 2018. We are happy to know they are together again.
