James Michael Lucas
James Michael Lucas, 83, beloved husband, father, music teacher and band director, passed away peacefully Jan. 24, of congestive heart failure. Jim, born in Cleveland, retired from the Akron Public Schools. He was the instrumental music teacher for Buchtel, Ellet and their district schools, assistant principal at Litchfield and Jennings Middle Schools and Kenmore High School. For many years he conducted the Cuyahoga Falls Community Band. He was the first Special Events Director for the Canton Professional Football Hall of Fame. He served in the 98th Army Band (Korean War).
Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sally; brother, Don (Marie) of Tallahassee, Florida, children, Jim (Karen), Margaret, Bernadette Kolar (Dave), John (Claudia), Jean Colebank; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Jim loved the outdoors and was so grateful to his friends, Bob and Bonnie Funk, who helped him have camping days in his older years.
Jim loved life and was blessed with an additional 17 years after he received a liver transplant in 1998.
Calling hours are FRIDAY, January 29 from 5 to 8 pm with a memorial service for 6:30 pm at Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd St., Cuyahoga Falls. The memorial Mass will be at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1905 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls at 10 a.m. SATURDAY, January 30. In lieu of flowers or gifts please sign an organ donor card.
