James H Sloat

James H. Sloat April 10, 1932-January 8, 2010 passed away after suffering complications from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in October, 2009.

He was a resident of Montgomery, Texas and formerly of Akron, Ohio. James was born on April 10, 1932 to the late Grace Nostwich and Elmer Sloat. He worked for 24 years for the Aluminum Company of America, retiring in South Texas. He loved his family, flying, and classical music.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Georgene V. Sloat; his son, Eric Sloat, and his brother, Stephen John Nostwich. He is survived by his son, Brian Davina Sloat of Spring, Texas and his daughter, Melinda Richard Russell of Kennedale, Texas. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Katie, Jessica, Natalie, and Audrey Russell of Kennedale and Ian and Rachel Sloat of Spring. He will also be sadly missed by his cousins, many nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller, Akron, with Dr. Donard M. Engle officiating. Internment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, tax deductible donations may be made to Travis Academy of Fine Arts, re: James Sloat Memorial Fund, 800 W. Berry, Fort Worth, Texas, 76110. Tax deductible donations may also be made to Oak Ridge High School Band, re: James Sloat Memorial Fund, 27330 Oak Ridge School Road, Conroe, Texas, 77385.
